Mikel Merino is now a permanent Newcastle player
Newcastle midfielder Mikel Merino has signed a five-year contract after joining from Borussia Dortmund on a permanent basis.
The Spaniard originally joined on loan from Dortmund in July but the Magpies have now exercised an option to turn the move into a permanent transfer with immediate effect.
The 21-year-old is looking forward to continuing his development at St. James’ Park after committing himself to Newcastle until 2022.
“I’m really happy to be here, and for this part of the contract to finally be official,” he told NUFC TV.
Merino has impressed for Newcastle since joining the club this summer
“I’m happy to be here for five more years and I hope to keep playing for this club and to give good things to all the people and the club.
“I have been focused on football always, but it’s good to know it’s now official and people will know it.
“I’m focused on my displays and improving myself, and I’m really happy to have signed this contract.”
