Sung Hyun Park carded back-to-back 67s at the weekend to win the US Women’s Open
Sung Hyun Park claimed her first victory in style as she captured the US Women’s Open title.
The Korean carded a five-under 67 in the final round at Trump National in New Jersey to win by two shots from amateur compatriot Hye Jin Choi.
Park started the day three shots behind overnight leader Shanshan Feng of China and stormed into contention with three birdies in the first eight holes before notching her only bogey of the round at the ninth.
She stretched clear of the field on the back nine thanks to birdies at the 12th, 15th and 17th and then held her nerve at the 18th with a superb up and down from the back of the green to salvage par.
Park finished on 11-under 277 with Choi handed second place after Feng triple bogeyed the final hole to slip back to six under and a tie for fifth with Spain’s Carlota Ciganda (70) and Jeongeun Lee of South Korea (71).
Two more Koreans, Mi Jung Hur (68) and world No 1 So Yeon Ryu (70), shared third place on seven under.
Marina Alex was the leading American, with President Donald Trump once again at the course, in joint-11th on four under.
England’s Charley Hull closed with a one-over 73 to finish in a tie for 21st place on level par.
