By the end of this year, Apple may supply 60 million tablet computers. This will be facilitated by the release of the updated classic iPad of the ninth generation, which is predicted a reduced price, as well as a radically redesigned iPad mini of the sixth generation.
In fiscal 2020, iPad sales have grown. Since the beginning of the pandemic, they have steadily increased every quarter. In the second fiscal quarter of this year, shipments of branded tablets showed a 79% increase over the same period last year. CEO Tim Cook recently noted that the second calendar quarter of 2021 was the most successful quarter for tablets in nearly a decade, with 12.9 million units sold.
Taking into account the fact that the announcement of the classic version of the ninth generation iPad at a reduced price is expected in September, by the end of the 2021 calendar year, the total sales of Apple tablets may reach 60 million units, analysts at DigiTimes are sure.
Another positive factor may be the release of the updated iPad mini, which will receive a number of cardinal changes: a design modeled on the current iPad Air, reduced bezels around the display, the absence of a physical Home button and the back of the case, made of brushed aluminum. In this case, a fingerprint sensor Touch ID will be built into the power button.
But the market for tablet computers as a whole, analysts are sure, does not face a very happy future. This year, it is predicted to decline by 5.9% to $ 37.5 billion, which will continue until at least 2025. By this time, sales will have dropped to $ 34.3 billion.
