China is protesting over the passage of two U.S. Navy ships in the Taiwan Strait; Beijing demands that Washington stop such provocations, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Tan Kefei said on Saturday.
The Ministry of Defense of the People’s Republic of China reported that the destroyer USS Kidd and the Coast Guard boat USCGC Munro passed through the Taiwan Strait on August 27.
“The United States constantly commits such provocative actions of an extremely bad nature, this fully demonstrates that the United States is the main violator of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, creating the largest security risks,” Tan Kefei said, whose words are quoted in a statement on the agency’s website.
He stressed that the Chinese side expresses its strong protest and sharp condemnation in this regard.
“Taiwan is an integral part of China, and the Taiwan issue is exclusively an internal matter of China, which does not allow any outside interference,” the representative of the ministry added.
Beijing, Tan Kefei said, demands that the United States stop provocations, strictly observe the principle of “one China” and the three joint U.S.-Chinese communique, refrain from creating obstacles in the relations between the armed forces of China and the United States, and not undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
