The Russian leader admitted that his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky might visit the EEF in the future if he makes efforts to improve relations between the two states.
“I think that the situation we are in today is absolutely abnormal, unnatural. Sooner or later, and it’s better if it happens sooner, the sooner, the better, we will restore our relations with Ukraine on a full-scale,” Putin said.
The Russian leader stressed that it is not the first generation of the Ukrainian authorities that comes with slogans about restoring relations with the Russian Federation. Still, in fact, they “deceive the voters.”
“This is happening under the pressure of extreme nationalists. It seems that the elected leaders after they entered the high offices begin to fear this particular part of Ukrainian society and do everything to satisfy their ambitions,” the Russian president noted.
Last Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between Putin and Zelensky is acceptable, but it needs to be well prepared for. However, he doubted that such a meeting is possible before the end of 2021.
